Somerset Pottery pottery Somerset potter Somerset

Somerset Potter Tai has created many highly collectable items of decorative pottery through traditional techniques.
Here is a selection of photographs showing predominantely present work, most of which depict the sense of the Cornish coastline that had such an influence on my style of interpretation. The following text will help to visualise the scene.

Imagine the movement, the secrecy and sound of the sea, the air that shifts around it.
One day it’s calm, soporific motion is mesmerising and enticing. Yet the very next day it can present a wild, thrashing, violent display of strength.

Loud crashing waves thrash and beat, persistently clawing at the exposed, vulnerable coastline– standing austere and determined. There are places that reveal a tortured past; crushing, bursting, falling, lying silent on the beach.
Land is edging onto the periphery of this scene; searching, creeping to its boundary.
These soft, gentle features temper the ragged, crude-edged cliffs that have forced a way out from under a sleeping, blanketed soil.
